Children’s Health

Children are more vulnerable because communication can be more difficult. Parents often notice a change or something unusual about their child. It helps a doctor to have seen and looked after a lot of children, sick and very sick ones, to get to know how serious it is. Dr Doireann O’Keeffe is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health as well as a GP. She continues to work weekly in the paediatric emergency department in the regional centre for excellence.

Moles

Most moles are just that. Some can be nasty. Melanoma is on the rise worldwide. Most GPs in Australia use a dermatoscope to assess moles more thoroughly. Dr Matt has the skills to use a dermatoscope and can examine all of your moles.

Skin Surgery

The Irish College of General Practitioners has accredited a limited number of clinics and GPs to perform skin surgery safely outside of hospital. Dr Matt has completed this detailed assessment successfully in 2016. He can remove moles, lumps and bumps or take skin biopsies for unusual rashes.

Joint Injections

All joints can get inflamed and painful or stiff. A lot of inflammations get better with physiotherapy. Sometimes, an injection is more suitable. Dr Matt has been injecting joints for many years now. He completed the Diploma of the Irish Society of Orthopaedic and Rheumatological Medicine to maintain and update his skills in 2018. Furthermore, he can use his ultrasound machine to help him get exactly into the right spot.

Travelling has become so much easier. Lots of us travel for work, leisure or to visit family and friends in distant places. Vaccines can make the stay in distant places safer. Emma Sullivan and Katherine O’Sullivan, our nurses, have undergone further training to be able to meet all of your travel needs.

Our "ticker" keeps us going. Dr Matt and Dr Doireann have both completed a post graduate course at UCC about heart health. We can look at the health of your heart, blood pressure and arteries with different tests. And we can help to safeguard your heart.

Asthma is very common. Symptoms can be vague. It is important to get the diagnosis right. When treatment is appropriate, asthma should not interfere with your life. Some very successful Olympiads have asthma. We can take care of your asthma- from diagnosis to treatment and prevention of acute flares.

Diabetes often comes on slowly. Dr Matt and Nurse Emma have completed a post graduate course at UCC about diabetes. We can help to prevent, diagnose and treat your diabetes. We liaise with all other health care professionals that can help manage your diabetes like dietitian, podiatrist, consultants and eye specialists.

We are accredited and offer the national cervical smear test 3 yearly for any woman between 25 and 45 and 5 yearly between 45 and 65.
